the chef

a little about hwe

Hwe’s journey with food started when she pursued pastry & bakery arts in culinary school straight out of college. During her internship at a pastry production kitchen, she had the opportunity to represent Singapore at the Junior World Pastry Cup in Italy – and by a stroke of luck and a fair bit of hard work, her team took home third place. This feat prompted her to start working in professional pastry kitchens after graduation.

Hwe’s continued curiosity for food and love for travelling led her to stage at some of the world’s best restaurants in Melbourne, Tokyo and Copenhagen. Some of Hwe’s recipes have been featured in BBC Good Food Magazine (2015) and “An Asian Touch” Cookbook by V-Zug (2020).

After some years cooking in local fine dining restaurants, Hwe decided in 2020 to create her own playground – a summer in hwe. Through this space, she hopes that more of you will be able to enjoy the food that she makes, and in a future not too far away – she’d like to share her knowledge so that you, too, can create something for your loved ones, with your own hands.
